Although Casa Ricardo is set in a tranquil area amongst the hills and mountains, it is only a short walk through the beautiful scenery to the typically Spanish, family run restaurant Terrasses de la Torre.

The

10 minutes walking along an easily accessible track past a farm, pine woods, vineyard and orange groves leads you to this rustic restaurant. Although the walk is short, it is a great way to see some of the countrysides flora and fauna.

The restaurant itself is nestled under a pinewood and has plenty of parking if you wish to access it by road. Terrasses De La Torre is unique and in the winter months only open Friday, Saturday and Sundays for lunch and dinner, but it is a perfect way to spend a sunday afternoon walking from Casa Ricardo for a long lazy delicious lunch.

Arriving at Terraces De La Torre resembled visiting someone's home for dinner, with an open fire and a warm welcome. The food was excellent and typically Spanish. Offered on the menu were delicacies such as paella, tapas, salad, chicken and rabbit, all of which were freshly produced from their own estate. We spoke to the owner who was extremely inviting and showed us his extensive wine cellar. He prided himself on serving traditional Valencian dishes which were simple yet delicious.

We asked our waiter for suggestions from the menu and he was happy to recommend salad and tapas, followed by coca and finally roasted rabbit. The salad was served as a range of plates filled with tomatoes, radishes, leaves and olives all of which were fresh and tasty. The extensive range of tapas were perfect for three people with albondigas (meatballs), sepia (octopus), roasted artichoke and liver to name just a few of the 12 tasting dishes that arrived. We chose the anchovy coca flatbread which is a popular pizza like tapas. The rabbit was served in a terracotta dish seasoned with garlic and herbs and delightful. Finally we had coffee and tarte de chocolate followed by complimentary apple schnapps. With wine and soft drinks the bill was extremely reasonable for 3 people at 12 euros per person.

If you want to experience a fresh traditional Spanish meal then Terrasses de la Torre is definitely the place. Considering it was a cold January evening, it was very homely, inviting for children and we can't wait to visit in the spring and have some lunch outside.

Thank you to Terrasses De La Torre for a lovely evening.

Late January already sees these beautiful miniature daffodils growing along the verges.

The walk to the restaurant is beautiful even in the winter.

Succedent oranges growing.

The first signs of spring, sprouting up after the cold snap we have just experienced.
