Lliber closed its main street, travelled back in time and welcomed a spectacular medieval market last weekend. The streets were lined with market stalls selling a range of delicacies such as cheese, ham and homemade chocolate as well as artisan stalls selling traditional and handmade products such as soap, herbs and jewellery. It was fascinating to watch craftsmen such as carpenters and blacksmiths demonstrating how they worked in the bygone times.

The main street through Lliber. The warmth of the sunshine brought locals and tourists alike to experience the combination of history, culture and fun.

Many of the stalls allowed you to try before you buy. This traditional cheese stall sold a range of delicious cheeses.

Food stalls served paella, sausages and refreshments with places to sit and people watch. The street came alive with characters in costume; medieval dancing and fighting. A weaponry display was at one end of the market where jousters and knights demonstrated how to use crossbows and swords.

This was not just a tourist attraction, but a real community gathering with the local school holding a cake stand alongside the artisan stalls.

The highlights for the children were the traditional medieval games and rides as well as the birds of prey display, where you had the chance to hold a bird of prey and have a photo taken.
In this wonderfully picturesque backdrop the medieval market in Lliber really came alive and the atmosphere was truly spectacular.
